The Ethel Walker School:
An Update on Art & Inspiration
A Good Pair
Earlier in the summer, we were thrilled to announce the new connection between The Ethel Walker School and Karen Rossi Studios. Karen’s work at the Simsbury, CT school began at the beginning of September, and she has thoroughly enjoyed the first month of her artist-in-residency. She’s had the opportunity to work with students of all ages, and it’s been exciting to see the progress that’s taking place on their projects. Some of the older students have been creating purses and shoes which mimic those worn by famous women of the past. Influential females, such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Helen Keller, have been the focus of this artistic exploration.
Sculptural Inspiration
In addition to working with students, Karen has had the chance to display her personal work at The Ethel Walker School’s Bell Library Gallery. Her “Women of Achievement” collection, which provided the inspiration for many of the students’ own projects, is part of the exhibit. These hanging, metal sculptures have never before been shown publicly. In addition to the “Women of Achievement, several of Karen Rossi’s original mobiles, sculptures and wall art are on display. The gallery is open to the public during the following hours: Monday thru Friday 9 to 5 and on Sunday 1 to 5. All original items will be available for purchase.
