About the Gallery Store and Workshop:

Internationally known artist Karen Rossi is excited to call Torrington her new home. Rossi's grand opening is scheduled for June 28 and 29, to coincide with the Open Your Eyes studio tour sponsored by the Northwest Arts Council. The Allen Building at 27 East Main Street will house a gallery, showroom, workspace and class room area.

The 27 East Main Street destination will feature demos and crafting workshops including painting on glass and Mosaics. Rossi has been hosting Art Parties for over 30 years and is particularly excited to offer "Make your own T-town ballerinas and Mad River Mermaids.” The artist has been involved with several CT Art communities and is excited to showcase the work of comrades and guest Artisans from Hartford, New Haven, South, and Northwest CT. Fundraisers for all Rossi's favorite non-profits, especially the Channel 3 Kids Camp, are in discussion. There will be a clearance area for sales of retired Rossi giftware

"The large storefront windows and high ceiling were an immediate draw to showcase my mobiles'" says Rossi. “When landlord Robert Rovezzi mentioned that the long-term plan for the building was to house artists' workspace, renting at the location became impossible to resist".

Rossi is most known for her giftware designs known as Fanciful FlightsTM, which she has licensed to major companies, enjoying worldwide sales. Fanciful Flights are metal caricatures of people adorned by charms which tell the story of a person's hobby or profession. Long before Rossi was involved with arts licensing, her originals were commissioned and collected by the likes of Neiman Marcus, Booz, Allen & Hamilton, lobbies of Hospitals, and even the Hartford Courant. With the gift market in a downturn, Rossi refocused her career on her original works and returned to the New York Gift Fair to once again sell her Made in the USA art and Judaica approximately one year ago.

"I have been working out of our Meriden home, utilizing storage at my parents, my in-laws, and the Norfolk metal studio. I've missed the crowds that used to attend my Windsor Locks and South Windsor open houses. My Norfolk spot is beautiful, but a real trek! Torrington is centrally located, and easily accessible from Rte. 8," smiles Rossi.

Torrington is not new to Rossi. Her great grandparents arrived in Torrington between 1910- 1913. The Calciolaris settled on Lafayette Street, her great grandfather Lodovico Rossi had a cow farm on Rossi Road. Her grandparents, Frina and Joe Rossi lived on Apple Street, where Karen spent many a summer. "My Noni didn't drive, and thought nothing of walking downtown to go shopping at Mertz. I was so excited to be in the city with her, it was so well kept," says Rossi, 'I hope to recapture and share that excitement".
