That's
Clever: HGTV show to include Karen's
whimsical artwork A
Taste of Hollywood It isn't every day that a TV
crew comes to Hartford, CT in search of subjects for a Hollywood-based television
show. So, when HGTV's "That's Clever" contacted Karen, our ears perked
up immediately. The popular show, which features artists from across the country
making their unique and fabulous creations, would be filming in Connecticut during
the month of December. Applications were filled out and phone calls were made.
Before long, Karen was contacted with the news that she'd been chosen as one of
a few Hartford-based artists to be featured on "That's Clever." The
project that was picked as the topic of her segment were the original "Short
Story" metal sculptures that have become her claim to fame. Lights,
Camera, Action! After weeks of communicating by email with the producers
and filming crew of "That's Clever," the day came to meet them in person.
An initial prep day was scheduled for December 20. It was there that Karen first
met Celia Bonaduce, Brian Heller, Joe Fox, and Justin Dickman. They helped her
set up the studio space she was renting from friend, Tim the Welder, and gave
her an idea of what the filming day would bring. At
3 PM on the following afternoon, they all met back at Tim's shop for the big day!
Several hours of taping, re-takes, and art-making awaited them. By the time 8
o'clock rolled around, they had plenty of material to create a fabulous segment
for "That's Clever." Behind
the Cameras Celia, Brian, and the rest of the crew work for Weller/Grossman
Productions, a company that has come to be a top producer of reality, informational,
and entertainment television. Celia has been filming "That's Clever"
for almost three years, since the show's inception. She found the shoot with Karen
to be very fun. "I loved how Karen could tell a "short story" through
the little charms and painted accents," she said. "I think its great
that you can't take it all in at once. Every time you look at a piece, you see
some little detail you missed the last time!" Stay
Tuned The show featuring Karen's "Short Stories" will
air in June 2007. Be sure to check back for all the details of when Karen will
make her HGTV debut. Visit the "That's
Clever" website for more information as well: http://www.hgtv.com
