RECIPES FOR LIFE

Last summer I unpacked a recipe box from my Nonie. As I peeked into the box, it was as if time stood still. It seemed like yesterday that I was a little girl sitting with her at the white and red enamel kitchen table, back on Apple Street. Recipes galore were spread like gems, cut from 1950’s cereal boxes, or handwritten from sisters and neighbors. Some were passed down through generations and straight from the old country, others explore the new country through the adventures of cooking with Jell-O, cream cheese, canned soup and jellies. I would like to illustrate this as a cookbook. The collection reveals the immigrant experience through the heart of the kitchen in true Northern Italian style. For now, I will share a few of her desserts with you here. For more, click here.
