New Britain Museum of American Art Benefits from Karen's Creations

The creative energies have certainly been flowing for Karen this month, and a few very special organizations are benefiting from her new ideas. Each year, Karen supports a number of non-profits arts organizations with the donations of her "Fanciful Flights" sculptures and other original creations. This year, she has selected the New Britain Museum of American Art to receive two auction items for their May 7th Spring Gala at the Tunxis Plantation Country Club in Farmington, CT. In addition to creating an original "postcard size work of art" for their silent auction, she has teamed up with some friends to provide an "artful experience" for the live auction. She and her fiancé, Greg Pasborg, along with Terra Gardens in Vernon and M&R Liquors, are donating a truly unique evening of wining and dining. Becky Trutter, Manager of Special Events at the New Britain Museum of American Art states, "Karen's donation of a plasma-cut metal sculpture in her whimsical, signature style adds an element of fun to the mix of traditional and contemporary artworks in our silent auction. Her unique live auction donation combining art making, wine tasting and hors d'oeuvre sampling is a fabulous idea and is sure to be popular among the Gala guests."

Live Auction

Terra Gardens is an extraordinary, magical spot, filled with garden plantings and a wide selection of Karen's work. The group who purchases her auction item will have the chance to spend a midsummer's night at Terra Gardens with Karen, exchanging creative ideas, sipping on fine wine, and eating savory appetizer "kabobs" seasoned with fresh herbs. In addition, Kim and Jim Chipello, owners of Terra Gardens, will offer advice on the latest gardening trends and will teach how to grow top-notch herb gardens. Karen will be enticing and entertaining the group with her newest garden creations and getting them drawing and painting up a storm! To top it off, Greg and a professional wine consultant, will showcase a selection of premium wines courtesy of M&R Liquors. It will be a unique and memorable experience to say the least!

Silent Auction

Karen's silent auction donation is a mixed media piece consisting of hand cut steel that has been rusted and brushed lightly with paint to emphasize features of the cut-out character. The piece sits on a handmade natural wood easel that has been covered in a gold lacquer. We rusted the piece ourselves, and you can do it at home too! Watch for the next newsletter, when we will give you tips on how to make a new piece look old.

Meet and Greet

Museum patrons and donating artists will have an opportunity to meet and greet each other at the First Friday Event on May 6th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Tunxis Plantation Country Club. While artists and supporters are mingling, the Eric Person Jazz Trio from Brooklyn, NY will be playing their fantastic melodies.
