Moms and Dads Galore! We are blessed with a beautiful but chilly New England spring. We are happy to see all the signs of renewal on Beaver pond. The swans are nesting, one pair of geese bauble about with seven babies. Woodchucks and squirrels are much too busy, and my parents have a family of foxes enjoying the shelter of the shed that houses all my years of prototypes. Their babies are the size of cats. We enjoy daily frolic reports, the young foxes love to play and thrash. Their Special Day Speaking of parents: Mother’s day has passed and Father’s day will be here all too quickly. This time of year, Greg and I savor the tradition of cooking steaks over a fire in Norfolk with my parents, or dining out with Greg’s Dad in Wethersfield. They gave us the gift of life and we work daily to make the gift worthy. Yet, there are never enough moments to say thank you. Thank goodness for Mothers and Fathers day which forces us all to stop and take notice. Gifts of Love I once asked my mom, "What was the best thing that I gave you to acknowledge what a great mom you have been to me?" The quickness of her reply surprised me; “The muffin tray that you engraved with all the "thank yous", "I love yous" and sweet memories. Everytime I used it , I smiled.” I had worked so hard on photo albums, or organizing a pig roast or lobster bake, that I never realized the pleasantness of my simple act of love and kindness. My Dad's favorite fathers day gift turned out to be an oversized box of toothpicks with "I love you Dad", and "#1 Dad" scribbled all over it. When I remarked that he had it on his dashboard for many years, undepleted, my Mom confessed that he refilled it because he liked it so much. I'd love to hear about your unique or handmade, mom & dad gifts. Karen
