A
Modern Tea Art
for the Heart When it comes to good causes, Karen lends a hand whenever
she can. Over the past year she has donated illustrations to groups such as the
YWCA, the CT Humane Society, and the Greater Hartford Arts Council. So, when the
Community Health Network of CT contacted her, she agreed to create a unique illustration
tailored to their event "A Modern Tea." The event's aim was to raise
awareness about women's heart health. A
Unique Gathering "A Modern Tea," which was held last month
at the Hartford Club, was not your typical tea party. The afternoon was filled
with fun opportunities to become more aware about heart disease, the risks, and
the ways to prevent it. Activities included salsa dancing lessons, massages, red
wine tastings, teas from around the world, and more. Doctors, health care providers,
and community leaders were invited to help convey the message of heart awareness.
In addition to the many activities, each guest also received a "goodie bag"
filled with incredible gifts. Along with a framed copy of Karen's "Modern
Tea" illustration, the bags also included a cookbook of heart healthy recipes,
a Modern Tea mug, and much, much more. Karen
enjoyed being part of this event, and the Community Health Network of CT expressed
great thanks over the artwork that Karen was able to donate. CHNCT's Jackie Buster
said, "Karen is an amazing artist and we are thrilled to have been able to
have her share her talent with us. When we first contacted Karen, we had no idea
of the extent in which she would actually get involved with creating an image
that represented the 'tea". Her generous support has given us the means to
fundraise for very important disease prevention and management programs that will
benefit kids and families throughout Connecticut." Faithful
Friends Because Karen was asked to speak at a conference for Canadian
artisans, she was not able to attend "A Modern Tea" herself. However,
after a call to friends Shelly and Lance Hyman, she knew she would have the perfect
substitutes. They agreed to stand at her booth, sell product, and answer any questions
that guest might have. They got to experience first hand what a special and fun
event "A Modern Tea" was!

Ladies
in Red Karen's
illustration depicted women wearing red, the color that "A Modern Tea"
encouraged all guests to wear to the event.
Helping
Hands Lance and Shelly Hyman manned Karen's booth
at "A Modern Tea." They had pieces such as Karen's Fanciful Flights
and her new stainless steel weathervanes available for sale. |
