Hospital
with Heart Karen always enjoys working with local communities and
hospitals to create art pieces that will encourage and inspire on a larger scale.
Recently, she connected with
Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They
wanted to create a sculpture celebrating babies, children and families to highlight
a plaque area recognizing contributors to their Better
Beginnings Fund, which benefits those served by the Unit. A
Playground with Pizzazz For several years, Karen has been in touch
with the creators of Boundless Playgrounds,
barrier-free playgrounds where children, with and without disabilities, can play
and learn. They had approached Karen about helping with a playground design for
South Windsor. The playground, called "My Friend's Place" was completed
this past month. A gate, built by Karen's friend Tim the Welder and incorporating
Karen's plasma-cut design, provides the entrance to the colorful and exciting
new playground.

a crane lifted it into place.
