The Wadsworth Atheneum Each year at the Wadsworth Atheneum, The Festival of Trees & Traditions is a major fundraising event presented by the Women’s Committee of the Museum. This year's co -chair, Shirley Randazzo, visited Karen at her Norfolk Studio to implore her to create a tree for the 38th Festival. Karen was unable to partake, due to her obligations fulfilling orders from the summer's wholesale trade shows. Shirley was relentless. When an extra room became available (due to a traveling art exhibit), Shirley invited Karen to create a Holiday Boutique at the Museum. Shirley had been dazzled by the amount of inventory in Karen's studio and was convinced that the Festival was a mutually beneficial fit. The Wadsworth is the oldest and most distinguished Museum in the United States. There must be no confusion regarding the collections they support, therefore Karen could not bring any original artwork to be sold.
It was the perfect excuse to unpack many long stored boxes of licensed product which hadn't seen the light of day since 2004. Ornaments from Silvestri, Kurt Adler, Tolland banners and rugs, all still in brand new shape!
Inspired by the recent storms, Karen's display trees of stick and twigs have made a big hit. They are topped with stars of wood with appliquéd soda cans. Karen hopes to inspire the many schoolchildren who frequent and perform during the festival to make their own trees from local and recycled materials.
