Garden
Craft Birdhouse Decorative
birdhouses are a perfect way to jazz up your garden or to bring a little of the
outdoors inside. Materials:
Unfinished wooden birdhouse (available
at craft stores)
Acrylic paints
Paint brushes
Pencil or marker
Stencils
Directions: 1.
For simple 4-sided birdhouses, base coat the sides using one or two solid colors
and the roof using one solid color. For more complex birdhouses (such as our six-sided
one), additional shades could be used. 2. Once dry, draw flowers onto
the sides of the house. Stencils of basic garden shapes can also be printed and
traced. Click here
for the stencils. 3. Hand draw (in pencil or marker) grass around
the base of the house. 4. Drawings of bees, butterflies, and clouds
can also be added to your birdhouse. Paint everything inside the lines white so
that it has a light-colored base coat. 5. Next, paint over the white
base coat with bright-colored acrylic paint. 6. Add two coats of shellac
if the piece is going to be displayed outside.

You
can add as much or as little detail as desired to the roof and the sides of the
birdhouse. You could even get really adventurous and add mosaic or mixed media
elements by gluing tiles, glass gems, or other materials onto your birdhouse.
